Red, White and Blue Banner
I initially made & used this banner for the Annual Family Day weekend celebration on campus during my son’s college days. Red, white & blue were the team colors so I’ve been able to repurpose it back at the house for my front porch patriotic decor. If you’re doing a drive by the house, you’ll see me using it for all 3 patriotic holidays through the summer - Memorial Day, 4th of July & Labor Day.
I started by cutting long strips of various red, white and blue fabrics. I stayed with 3 different patterns so it would have an eclectic look but not clash.
I used the packaged, precut & color matched quilting pieces from my local Wal-Mart’s fabric department.
They were the perfect length at 18”. Using pinking shears, I cut each strip in about 3” widths.
My next step was to tie all of the strips onto one continuous piece of roping.
I found a burlap twine of medium thickness that worked great.
Keep in mind the longer the rope, the more fabric you will need & the heavier it will be.
I tied each fabric length with a knot in the middle so that the hanging portion would be divided close to equal lengths.
Almost done! I love the messy, random look of the fabric strips.
This is a lot of fabric & the banner will be heavy as it grows. I like a full look so I loaded the burlap rope with fabric!
Time for the Command hooks! This is a 10lb maximum hook. I used one on either side of the porch. This size hook worked nicely & gave me a longer hook to wrap my burlap rope around.
Leaving plenty of extra rope at the either end of the banner allows me the ability to hang across wider spaces as needed.
The extra rope also gave me plenty of slack to create the knot & loop for hanging.
Ta Da!! All hung - I love the look & now with the door painted my favorite Peacock Blue it really makes a great back drop for the red, white & blue!
The nice view the Amazon delivery person gets on a daily basis!
Had to show you a shot with the flag also!
Last shot, I promise! So happy banner making, happy patriotic holidays and thanks for your visit to the blog!
